The connection of the number on the uniform shirt in the game of baseball is sometimes synonymous with the very players' names that wear them. This association has given baseball history another topic of conversation and narrative. Some of these greats wore one number their entire career, while others switched the digit on an almost year-by-year basis. Some of the numbers had meaning.
