Born April 3, 1928, in Alexandria, Virginia, was professional basketball trailblazer Earl Lloyd. Lloyd made history in 1950 when he became the first African-American to play in an NBA game. Earl played the position of small forward as a member of the NBA's Syracuse Nationals and later the Detroit Pistons. He helped the Nationals win the 1955 NBA Championship.
