Coyotes That Howled!

These players have helped to make the Coyotes one of the most exciting teams in the NHL over the past two decades. In this article, we will take a closer look at the careers of these players and more plus include why they are considered to be among the best in Arizona Coyotes history.


The History of the Arizona Coyotes Franchise

The Arizona Coyotes franchise began in 1972 as the Winnipeg Jets of the World Hockey Association. The Jets were one of the most successful teams in the WHA, winning the Avco World Trophy, the league's championship trophy, three times. The Jets joined the NHL in 1979 after the WHA folded.

The franchise moved to Phoenix, Arizona in 1996 and were renamed the Phoenix Coyotes. The Coyotes made their first playoff appearance in 1997, and they reached the Stanley Cup Final in 2022, but lost to the Colorado Avalanche in six games. In 2014 the franchise rebranded itself as the Arizona Coyotes.

The Jets/Coyotes have seen some great players on their roster. So far here are players that skated for the franchise that are in the Hockey Hall of Fame:

Dale Hawerchuk

Born April 4, 1963 in Toronto , Ontario, was Hockey Hall of Fame Center, Dale Hawerchuk. This legend was an NHL All-Star skater and winner of the 1981-82 Calder Award. His career spanned 16-seasons as he was found on the NHL rosters of the Winnipeg Jets, Buffalo Sabres, St Louis Blues, and Philadelphia Flyers. Hawerchuk was responsible for scoring 518 goals and dishing out 891 assists in his time in the League.

Bobby Hull

Born January 3, 1939, in Point Anne, Ontario, was Hockey Hall of Fame Left Wing, Bobby Hull. This skating legend scored 610 goals and provided 560 assists during his productive 23-year career in the NHL and WHA. Hull skated for the franchises of the Chicago Black Hawks, Winnipeg Jets, and Hartford Whalers.


Mike Gartner

Born October 29, 1959, in Ottawa, Ontario, was Hockey Hall of Fame Right Wing, Mike Gartner. This legend was selected as one of the NHL's top 100 players in 2017. He skated with the Washington Capitals, Minnesota North Stars, New York Rangers, Toronto Maple Leafs, and Phoenix Coyotes during 19 brilliant seasons in the NHL.
