Initially, the team owner was The Walt Disney Company, which wanted to capitalize on the film's popularity. The Ducks played their first two seasons at the Anaheim Pond (now Honda Center), and they quickly became one of the most popular teams in the NHL.
The Ducks made their first playoff appearance in 1997, and they reached the Stanley Cup Final in 2003. However, the Ducks lost to the New Jersey Devils in seven games. The franchise rebranded itself after new ownership took over to their current name of the Anaheim Ducks in 2006.
The Ducks finally won their first Stanley Cup in 2007, defeating the Ottawa Senators in five games.

Born August 31, 1973, in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, was Hockey Hall of Fame Defensemen, Scott Niedermayer. This legend played 18 seasons he was a four-time All-Star and was on four Stanley Cup Champion teams. In 2003–04 Scott won the James Norris Memorial Trophy as the NHL's top defenseman and the Conn Smythe Trophy in 2007 as the most valuable player of the playoffs. His NHL tenure included playing for the Winnipeg Jets and the Mighty Ducks of Anaheim.
