October 22, 1972 - World Series: Oakland A's beat Reds, 3-2 in Cincinnati for a 4-3 series win; A's first C'ship since 1930, first in Oakland: MVP: A's catcher Number 38Gene Tenace

October 22, 1974 - The New York Yankees traded outfielder Bobby Murcer, Number 1 to the San Francisco Giants for outfielder Bobby Bonds, Number 25

October 22, 1975 -  World Series: Cincinnati Reds beat Boston Red Sox, 4-3 at Fenway Park for 4 games to 3 series win; MVP: Reds switch hitter Number 14Pete Rose

October 22, 1976 - Rick Barry, Number 24 of the San Francisco Warriors franchise, began the then longest NBA free throw streak of 60 made shots from the charity stripe

October 22, 1984 - Future Pro Football HOF quarterback Ken Stabler, Number 12 retires after 17 seasons in the NFL with Oakland Raiders, Houston Oilers and New Orleans Saints

October 22, 1996 - New York Yankee Bernie Williams, Number 51 hit a record tying 7th post season HR, as Yanks tie record of 6th straight post season road win (en route to 8)

October 22, 1999 - NHL goaltender Number 31Grant Fuhr wins his 400th career game (vs Florida Panthers)
