February 11, 1966 - The San Francisco Giants inked the centerfielder who wore Number 24, Willie Mays the a record MLB  contract at $130,000 per season. Mays led the League in 6 categories in the previous season including; 52 Home runs, a .398 On Base Percentage, a slugging percentage of .645 and more to earn the "giant" pay raise

February 11, 1971 - The Montreal Canadien's lefthanded Center, Jean Beliveau, who wore the Number 4 proudly on his sweater for much of his career scored his 500th NHL goal as the Canadiens downed the Minnesota North Stars 6-2.

February 11, 1974 - First Major League Baseball arbitration case; Minnesota Twins pitcher Dick Woodson, who sported the Number 13 uniform, sought $29,000 per win while the Twins offered $23,000. It was a new rule at the time where if the two sides could not reach an agreement the Players Association could send it to one of 14 arbitrators.

February 11, 1978 - 25th hat trick in NewYork  Islander history, as Number 5Denis Potvin's posted the second of his brilliant career at that point.

February 11, 1982 - The San Diego Padres traded Ozzie Smith for Garry Templeton of the St Louis Cardinals. This blockbuster was finalized after days of agonizing negotiations between the two sides. Smith wore the Number 1 on his jersey for both clubs, while Templeton also wore the Number 1 for both.

February 11, 1984 - The legendary Number 99, Wayne Gretzky set an NHL short handed season scoring record at 11 while playing for the Edmonton Oilers.

February 11, 1985 - Kent Hrbek, who wore Number 14 signed a 5-year, $6 million contract with Minnesota Twins to continue to play First base for the club.
