There have been multiple books written on NBA history over the years. One of the most inclusive that I have come across is https://www.amazon.com/NBA-75-Definitive-Dave-Zarum/dp/0228102901/ref=sr_1_1?qid=1680095421&refinements=p_27%3ADave+Zarum&s=books&sr=1-1:">Dave Zarum's NBA 75: the Definitive History and The Greatest Game published by Firefly Books. The hard copy of the work is beautifully put together in an almost coffee table style filled with large beautiful images but it goes beyond the style of mere coffee table decor. The substance and depth of the writing takes a reader on many different journeys back in time through NBA history; the good, the not so good, and the absolutely fantastic stories of professional basketball legends.

Dave Zarum is a writer born in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. He has written for publications such as Toronto Life Magazine and Sportsnet magazine and is an editor for the Big Book of Sports Lists, among other ventures. He has won the National Magazine Award for his work and has authored the NBA 75: the Definitive History and The Greatest Game, an oral history of the 1989 Grey Cup.

The book not only delves into the modern NBA but goes into the deep roots and origins of pro hoops iteself. The BAA and NBL and their plights, founders, etc... that eventlually led to a merger into the National Basketball Association is well covered.
