When you talk about the greatest catchers of all time, Roy Campanella, who played for the Brooklyn Dodgers comes to mind.
Campanella was an American baseball catcher who played in the Negro Leagues and Major League Baseball (MLB) from 1937 to 1957.
Roy started his professional baseball journey in 1937 with the Baltimore Elite Giants of the Negro Leagues. He quickly became one of the top players in the Negro Leagues and was named to the All-Star team every year from 1939 to 1945.
In 1946, Campanella was signed by the Brooklyn Dodgers. Roy made his MLB debut on April 20, 1948, and quickly established himself as one of the best catchers in the league. Campanella was selected to the All-Star team eight times in his career and was twice named the National League's Most Valuable Player (1951 and 1953).
Campanella was a powerful hitter with a lifetime batting average of .276 and 411 home runs. He was also a great defensive catcher and was known for his strong throwing arm and his ability to block pitches.
