Manufacturing MLB Uniforms

Baseball season is exciting to see our favorite Big League stars swinging, throwing, and catching the old hardball decked out in their team's colors. Have you ever sat back and said, who makes all this gear the players are wearing? We have, and we researched the answers to share with you.

The MLB Uniforms are Currently Made by...

The jersey tops are all made by Nike, who in 2019 inked a 10-year deal with Major League Baseball to manufacture the uniform shirts we see the players wear on game day, practice, and spring training. The 2020 season was the kickoff for this agreement, and that year the only change was the addition of the famous Nike Swoosh emblem to each team’s look.

This was a significant change for such a small adornment but was just the tip of the iceberg for uniform revision. In 2022 the MLB and Nike unveiled the City Connect uniforms. These are occasional game day outfits that use the basic color scheme of each team, but in an untraditional way, and then the wording may be changed up from what the norm is on the team’s standard unis. For example, the Milwaukee Brewers had the words “Brew Crew” displayed on the front of their City Connect jerseys. The alternate City Connect uniforms program will be expanded to all other franchises in the 2023 season. Read more about the other changes to the MLB uniform here.

Nike only makes the uniforms for the players, managers, and other team personnel that don them. Fanatics make the jerseys made for the public to buy. If you or I want to purchase a jersey of our favorite team and player, the official ones are a Fanatics product. We can cut out the middleman if you care to buy your favorite MLB gear because of an affiliate partnership with Fanatics so that you can buy directly from the folks that make the uniforms, and a portion goes to help run this website. Take a look at what Fanatics has to offer in MLB jerseys and hats.

Who Manufactures the MLB Hats?

The MLB players' baseball caps have been made and manufactured by the New Era Cap Company since 1993. New Era’s specialty is in the ball cap design, and they are generally of top quality. For more on the history of baseball hat manufacturing, here are a few great articles to check out that we have found.

The Wrap Up

Nike by the way also takes care of the MLB player footwear as well as part of the ten year contract.

There you have it, we now know the scoop on who makes the MLB uniforms.
